Industry veterans must make room for the young generation: Rishi Verma, Fatehchand Bansilal Jewellers
In a conversation with The Retail Jeweller, Rishi Verma, Partner, Fatehchand Bansilal Jewellers, Ambala shares his business principles and ethics.
The Retail Jeweller (TRJ): What has been the greatest lesson learnt during the pandemic?
Rishi Verma (RV): For me, it has been the need for happiness. I have also learnt to stay in touch with customers and vendors more effectively.
TRJ: How did you utilise the lockdown time personally?
RV: I have read almost 50 books during lockdown. I started a YouTube channel after the first lockdown and also did a couple of courses from the Art of Living Foundation, a non-governmental organization.
TRJ: The business leader you admire the most and why?
RV: The former chairman of Tata Sons, Rata Tata, because even after achieving so much, he is still down-to-earth and treats his employees like family.
TRJ: Your favourite holiday destination?
RV: Goa.
TRJ: Your favourite cuisine?
RV: Thai.
TRJ: Had you not been in the jewellery business, what would you have been?
RV: A politician.
TRJ: Your de-stress mantra?
RV: When I am under stress, I meditate or go for a run.
TRJ: A book or a movie you would like to recommend to others?
RV: “Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones” by James Clear.
TRJ: Political personalities from history you would love to meet in person and why?
RV: Former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was a seasoned politician from a simple background and was also a non-corrupt leader.
TRJ: Your business principle and success mantra?
RV: To give a delightful and memorable experience to the customers.
TRJ: One thing you would love to do differently?
RV: If I get a chance, I’ll try to change the prevalent Indian education system.
TRJ: What happiness means to you?
RV: Contentment gives me happiness. Human wants are unlimited, so it’s important to be happy with whatever we have.
TRJ: Your leadership style?
RV: I am a patient leader.
TRJ: If you had a message for the G&J industry in the post-corona world, what would it be?
RV: Make room for upcoming and new-age entrepreneurs.
