Chennai-based Konika Jewellery has always been conscious of its responsibilities towards the community and the environment, but the recent Covid-19 threat urged them to provide for beyond their workforce, to the society at large. From ensuring the livelihood and safety of their karigars to providing essentials to the needy, they have walked the extra mile to stand beside everyone they could during the unprecedented crisis. Their recent endeavour comprises supporting over 60 transgender women with basic essentials. The brand distributed a Covid essential kit which consisted of two big packets of rice, semiya, oil and rava through a delivery vehicle accompanied by a local transgender social activist.

Sharing more details, Tanvi Singhi, Marketing Head, Konika Jewellery, said, “During the pandemic, a friend of mine approached me seeking help for the transgender women who are unable to find basic essentials during the lockdown. So, as a part of Konika’s pride initiative, we supported them by providing dry ration. We are also planning to arrange Covid-19 vaccines for the community members as a lot of them are still skeptical to take the vaccine because of a lack of awareness. However, a few of them have agreed to take the vaccine.”

Konika Jewellery is also looking forward to employing transwomen in their workforce to support the community and thus, fight against stigma and stereotypes in society. Other notable activities by the brand include providing free meals to almost 200 poor people for almost a week during the lockdown and donating to several government charities such as the PM Care Fund.
