Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers’ floral fashion show at Chennai Museum taps into India’s love for garlands
The event attracted over 450 prominent guests from Chennai, underscoring the city’s vibrant cultural scene
Chennai: FICCI FLO Chennai, the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), recently hosted a landmark event on September 21. The occasion featured a dazzling fashion show presented by design house Raw Mango, showcasing their latest collection, “Garland – Festive 2024,” alongside the iconic South Indian fine jewellery brand, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ).
Held at the historic Chennai Museum, housed in a beautifully restored theatre built in 1896, the event was a celebration of creativity and cultural heritage. It brought together Raw Mango and VBJ, highlighting their collections for the upcoming festive season.
The Raw Mango collection explored the rich symbolism of garlands, drawing inspiration from their omnipresence in Indian culture—from floral torans and braided malas to the sculpted garlands of Mauryan statues. The collection featured intricate embroidery on brocade, complemented by contrasting colour appliqués in vibrant shades like gulkand rani, petal pink, mogra white, and raw green mango leaves.
Designer and Founder of Raw Mango, Sanjay Garg, expressed his enthusiasm for the collection, stating, “Garlands are symbols of blessing, love, and worship. They are not just about adornment; they carry deep meaning and emotion. I’m excited to present this collection in Chennai, a city I admire for its rich language of flowers and garlands.”
VBJ also showcased its remarkable festive pieces, reflecting the city’s rich heritage and its intrinsic love of garlands. Amarendran Vummidi, managing partner of Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, remarked on the collaboration: “We were delighted to partner with FICCI FLO and Raw Mango for this seminal event. Together, we showcased our exquisite creations that celebrated the enduring artistry of India, combining unique craftsmanship with intricate design.”
The event attracted over 450 prominent guests from Chennai, underscoring the city’s vibrant cultural scene. Divya Abhishek, Chairperson of FICCI FLO Chennai, emphasized the significance of the event, saying, “This spectacular event beautifully celebrates Chennai’s legacy through a blend of design and heritage. We are delighted to be the first city worldwide where Raw Mango is showcasing its new festive collection—Garland—alongside jewellery from one of the city’s most renowned houses, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers.
Established in 1900, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ) is a leading fine jewellery brand in South India, known for its exceptional quality in diamond jewellery, gold, and silverware. Trusted by over six generations, VBJ recently opened its first store in Dallas, USA, expanding its significant presence with two showrooms in Chennai.
