Jaipur is the undisputed king of uncut and colored gemstones and thus holds a special place in the hearts of retail jewellers. And, retailers are excited about their first major purchase in the last 1.5 years, thanks to JAS, the premium B2B show being held in Jaipur from 18 to 20 August.

Discussing the scope for the trade, The Retail Jeweller got in touch with retailers across India who are looking forward to expand their inventory with specialties of Jaipur’s karigari. Gaurav Anand, MD, Anand Jewels, Indore feels that polki and gemstones are musts in a modern bride’s trousseau. “I’m looking forward to an excellent wedding collection at the show.

My buying team is visiting with a lot of expectations,” said Anand.

While most retailer are keen on buying bridal jewellery, most of them are expecting the manufacturers to display innovative light weight budget designs. “Considering the smaller scale of marriages and reduced demand, the low-medium range designs will do well,” says Haresh Soni, Partner, Premji Valji Jewellers, Delhi.

Jewellers are aware that polki designs are growing in popularity. “Lately, we have been witnessing a sharp rise in demand of bridal polki jewellery. We are hoping to see new brisal trends at JAS 2021,” says Sunil Datwani, Genhna Jewellers, Mumbai.

Similarly high is the expectation of Nakshatra Mehta from Mehta Emporium, for whom Jaipur is a go-to destination for sourcing great jewellery. “Jaipur has been the greatest attraction for jewellers since ages. It’s polki, kundan craftsmanship dominate high jewellery segment and JAS will surely top that expectation with trendy designs,” he said.

Anand Kulthia from Kulthia Jewels, Kolkata appreciates the fact that JAS 2021 is bringing retailers, manufacturers and wholesalers under one roof where trade can be done on Jaipur’s expertise specifically. “We are looking forward to meeting new suppliers and striking new relationships,” he said.

Agreeing to this notion is Hitesh Adeshra, Director, Keshavji Chhaganlal Jewellers, Jamshedpur, who finds JAS’s first B2B platform a brilliant opportunity to command exclusivity in jadau, kundan and polki category in the easiest way possible. “I am looking forward to attending JAS, which is catering to a niche group of buyers looking for top-notch craftsmanship,” he said. Reflecting on how kundan and polki demands are at an all-time high, Adeshra added that participation in JAS 2021 will create a niche customer base in the category for retailers like himself in states such as Jharkhand where heritage designs in gemstone jewellery can become a differentiator helping draw the attention of elite buyers.
