The partnership will promote the Parichay Card Scheme which authenticates the identity of jewellery industry workers for social security purposes

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has partnered with the industry body Swarnkar Sangh’s Delhi chapter to hold a meeting with industry workers. The event was designed to empower the sector and promote the Parichay Card Scheme.

The GJEPC’s Delhi regional office and the Delhi Swarnkar Sangh joined forces to enrol jewellery workers on the Parichay Card scheme, which authenticates jewellery industry workers for social security purposes, the GJEPC reported on its website. The Delhi Swarnkar Sangh announced at the event that it aims to onboard 5,000 workers onto the scheme. The Delhi Swarnkar Sangh advocates for jewellery artisans in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area, a prominent wholesale centre in the capital, and counts over 40,000 skilled artisans as members.

“The meeting served as an initial forum to acquaint the artisans with the Parichay Card scheme and the necessary steps required for registration,” announced the GJEPC on its website. “Moreover, the GJEPC representatives attentively listened to the concerns raised by the Delhi Swarnkar Sangh, particularly regarding the distressing forced closures and sealings [sic] of their modest workspaces in 2018 during the previous administration led by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.”

The GJEPC responded to the industry workers’ grievances by encouraging collaboration towards finding solutions. The GJEPC urged for dialogue and teamwork between the Delhi Swarnkar Sangh, the GJEPC’s North India regional chairman, and the secretary of the Delhi Sarafa Association to tackle industry issues.
