Stating the multifarious significance of the hi-tech ring at the Oscars of Indian jewellery retail, Bobby Kothari summed up the technological journey of wearable accessories at Retail Jeweller India Awards

MUMBAI: Embarking on a new era of technological excellence, Jewelex, in collaboration with Ultrahuman, launched Rare, the first luxury smart ring that blends daily use, promotes best health practices while being unmistakably luxurious and beautiful with gold, platinum, titanium, and silver as its base metals.

Drawing an outline of the first-of-its-kind collaboration, Bobby Kothari, Director of Jewelex explained how, with the passage of time, watches have advanced from being held inside pockets, then a World War 1 innovation, making wristwatches only over a 100-year-old accessory. As smart watches became the recent norm, the collaboration between Jewelex and Ultrahuman ushers in a new era of tech-guided fashion in the precious jewellery market of India.

“Our industry has evolved from being a pure art industry to gradually an art and engineering industry because of the various techniques in use today such as 3D printing and CFC are based on a lot of engineering and research. So, on the manufacturing front, there has been a fair bit of adaptation of technology. We are also seeing a lot more organised retail with emphasis on data science,” explained Kothari.

Hailing the legacy of Retail Jeweller India Awards as a distinguished platform for the industry, Kothari said, “The Retail Jeweller India Awards are the ‘Oscars’ for the industry and everyone aspires to achieve it. The ceremony brings everyone together. So, I think it’s a pretty unique environment for networking. I would like to see the brand involve more players in the supply chain ecosystem, to revolutionise how jewellers collaborate for excellence,” concluded Kothari.

Underlining the journey from conceptualisation to the market, Mohit Kumar, CEO, Ultrahuman, said that it took two years to create the first Rare ring made of Titanium, now available in the market. “We were truly merging the aesthetics of jewellery and technology together. The original product was designed and conceptualised in India. This is a 24×7 daily wearable device, so for it to be comfortable, we created the world’s lightest smart ring, and with the partnership of Jewelex, we are able to bring it to other aesthetic form factors such as gold, platinum, and silver,” maintained Kumar.
