Chennai: Among the heterogeneous mix of chain stores and family jewellery brands in the South India market, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ) is a force to reckon with, thanks to its century-old rich history of serving customers in and around Tamil Nadu. Now, the brand is all set to make a global footprint, the first step of which was the launch of its first retail store at Dallas, USA on October 19.

A promising response to exhibitions by the brand in the United States spurred it to explore global markets, going beyond its strong regional patronage. Going forward, VBJ plans to launch four showrooms in the US, besides eight in Tamil Nadu, within the next four years.

Commenting on the expansion, Jithendra Vummidi, Managing Partner, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers says in the past few years, the brand’s exhibitions in the US, which has a large Indian diaspora, have been well-attended. “Every visitor requested us to open a showroom close to their location. This encouraged us to think of a physical presence in the US in the form of a store,” Vummidi elaborates. “Now, Indians are global citizens, and the one constant thing among all Indians is their connection to jewellery,” he adds.

VBJ is known for its unique in-store workshops hosting designers and artisans. The brand’s designers collaborate with craftsmen to enhance the jewellery shopping experience for the customer – the designers’ vision married with the viscerality of intricate karigari preserves the emotive quality of the handcrafted pieces. “We have a dedicated design team comprising artists, CAD designers and craftsmen, who sit together to discuss trends, themes of interest and techniques. They craft these ideas into prototypes. The selected models are crafted and reach our counters,” Vummidi explains.

The brand also encourages its customers to communicate their aesthetic preferences to the team and thus, be a part of the creative process. Whenever anyone desires a custom-made piece, the brand brings buyers closer to the conception of their dream designs. “We encourage clients to sit with our designers, discuss the idea, and list out their requirements. Once they’re happy with a chosen sketch, we proceed with crafting this unique creation, just for them,” Vummidi says.

Meanwhile, following a warm response from the Indian community to VBJ’s Dallas store opening, Vummidi states that the brand’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction will resonate universally as it begins its journey of catering to international clientele.
