Swarnagram is a figment of Shyam Shundar Co Jewellers’ larger goal of societal upliftment. The annual sports day on 22 May, celebrated at Swarnagram of Warengbari in Tripura, bears the fruit of a 13-year-long attempt to uplift living conditions of Swarnagram and make it a model village project.

The event involved the jeweller’s remarkable initiatives to encourage physical recreation of school kids in the region. A host of track and field sports such as racing were conducted by the brand on the day. Prizes were distributed to the best male and female participants in sports. Schoolchildren showing great promise on track were also felicitated by the brand, which organised a community feast for every participant and team member, thus making the event a roaring success.

As brand director Rupak Saha sang along with young participants, it was a definitely pleasant sight that strengthened the brand’s resolve for social welfare. “For thirteen years, the brand has been enabling generational development in education and extra-curricular activities of children at Swarnagram. This year too, we had children deliver musical performances, yoga and take part in different types of sports activities. The idea is to instil a culture of excellence so that these children can represent the state and the nation professionally in the future.”

About educational development, Saha shared that the Swarnagram Shikshalaya currently teaches children till class 5. Within years, the brand has plans to upgrade infrastructure for education till class 8 with an ultimate goal of completing secondary education in the long run. The initiative also plans to provide scholarships to meritorious students in the school. Taking care of holistic growth, the event included a health camp for the participants and a free study and sports material distribution campaign.
