Sotheby’s Dubai has announced the upcoming exhibition featuring highlights of the Royal Jewels from the Bourbon Parma Family collection, which includes pieces that belonged to Marie Antoinette herself.

“It is one of the most important royal jewellery collections ever to appear on the market and each and every jewel is absolutely imbued with history,” says Daniela Mascetti, Deputy Chairman of Sotheby’s Jewellery Europe.

The exhibition is open to the public from Sunday 7th to Tuesday 9th September at Sotheby’s Dubai gallery in DIFC.

The impressive jewellery ensemble includes a total of 10 pieces that can be traced back to Marie Antoinette and boast a fascinating story. In March 1791 the ill-fated King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette and their children began to prepare for their escape from France. According to accounts written by a lady in waiting, Madame Campan, the queen spent an entire evening in the Tuileries Palace wrapping all of her diamonds, rubies and pearls in cotton and placing them in a wooden chest.
