How JAS 2021 fills a big gap in retail sourcing?
Jewellers Association Show has been creating a niche of its own in Indian jewellery buyer-seller meets solely on the appeal of unique artistry. Although it has primarily served end-consumers for 14 years now, the plan to shift gears to an exclusive trade show catering to retailers and wholesalers is a mammoth move for the Indian jewellery supply chain. The results are out for the first day of the show and buyers hail the initiative.
MunishKhurana of KhuranaJewellers, Amritsar, said that the industry has been waiting for this opportunity to examine jewellery in person since 16 months. “Physically assessing the look and feel of jewellery can’t be replaced by virtual assessment and we are thankful to JAS for arranging this trade show. The grandeur of colour gemstones and kundan, meena can be found best in Jaipur and JAS 2021 gives a great opportunity to explore that,” said Khurana.
This is one of the reasons why JAS 2021 is creating a golden opportunity for exposure to Jaipur’s niche craft ahead of buying season. The trade can now explore new designs in this specialized category of polki, kundan and colored gemstone category and revive demand.
Meghali Gupta of ShriramHariramJewellers, Delhi feels that JAS 2021 has become more exclusive with an international touch to its inventory. “There is a filtered crowd that is focusing more on the trade, both from the parts of buyers and exhibitors. The overtimes has also helped engage in serious trade,” she maintained.Sonu Jain of Suncity Jewels, Jodhpur, said that he is impressed with the kind of exhibits at all the stalls she visited on August 18.
Abhishek Sand, executive committee member of JAS Jaipur, elaborated on this aspect. Kundan, meena and jadau owe their origins to Jaipur. About 90% of the gemstones in India are cut in Jaipur. This apart there are brilliant manufacturing setups for diamond and silver jewellery in the city. But there has been no serious and focused retail-manufacturer trade on a grand scale as opposed to other cities in the country, says Sand. This disadvantageous position has been overturned by the astute vision of JAS committee members, who are turning the show into a platform wherein retailers and manufacturers can trade directly.
The show is striving to build a direct connect to the source, without the intervention of middlemen thus making sure the buyers get the best value and quality of supply. It will make the buying process complete transparent.
This apart, Jaipur’s globally renowned gemstones will be available on display. Emeralds, rubies, blue and yellow sapphires, cat’s eye, coral, pearl, gomedak, and semi-precious stones such as opal, tanzanite, tourmaline, turquoise, opal, morganite, peridot, garnet and many more. All gemstone exhibitors will be present in the show, added Sand.
Appreciating the effort of the manufacturers, diamond jeweller Abhishek Zaveri said that JAS 2021 turned out to be a nicely coordinated show with selective exhibitors and niche buyers creating one of the best buying and selling instances together. “JAS has taken a nice step for the exhibitors with this B2B exclusivity. Manufacturers have done a lot of hard work this time and we’ll have to be a little more optimistic for the coming wedding season,” he added.
Supporting this spirit is the statement of manufacturer Ashok Bohara, owner, Aqua Gold. He said that JAS has carved a niche of its own in B2C and is slated to become one of the most successful trade shows in Jaipur ever. “We are thrilled to showcase our unique diamond polki and 18K gold jewellery to existing and new buyers this time,” Bohra maintained.
Sharing his observation about the show, chief guest Colin Shah, chairman, GJEPC said that the show makes the industry proud for conducting the first large-scale B2B trade event after the second wave. “A lot of karigar’s jobs depend on the business generated in such B2B events. The timing of JAS 2021 in August immediately before RakshaBandhan, Navratri and the season ahead correctly encourages the manufacturing industry to be up and running,” Shah maintained.
