Harsahaimal Shiamlal Jewellers evokes Maharani Gayatri Devi’s style in its Rani collection
The brand endeavoured to recreate her persona through an aesthetic shoot at the historic Biabani Kothi in Bareilly, and succeeded in attaching extra value to the jewellery by linking it with her iconic elegance
Bareilly: Jewellers have always looked up to kings and queens and their extravagant lifestyles to recreate opulence and forge a link with history. Harsahaimal Shiamlal Jewellers chose Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, a fashion icon whose elegance remains unmatched, as the inspiration for its recently unveiled Rani collection. It re-imagines the Maharani’s refined sense of style in jewellery pieces relatable to the modern era.
Speaking about the collection, Ruchika Anand, Director, Harsahaimal Shiamlal Jewellers, Bareilly, recalled how the Maharani’s fearless fashion sense allowed her to carry off a chiffon sari and a polo suit with equal aplomb. In spite of her aura, not only the elite but also the masses connected with her, stated Anand, adding, “The women of today have come of age to be like the Maharani. Brides today shed stereotypes and sport blue or green lehengas with ease. The jewellery pieces of Rani reflect this fearlessness. They look royal, but are not gawdy.”
The jeweller had started showcasing the Rani collection in the first week of January, but had to keep it on hold, as it received the prestigious order to create jewellery for the idol of Ram Lalla at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, within a short deadline.
Harsahaimal Shiamlal Jewellers recently uploaded video and photo shoots done at the historic Biabani Kothi in Bareilly, giving glimpses of the jewellery from the collection. The shoot featured Sonal Gautam, a passionate multi-hyphenate across sports and performing arts, which made her the perfect candidate to model the Maharani’s unique style. The shoot with Gautam, who happens to be the Bareilly mayor’s wife, was done in November 2023. According to Anand, they retained Gautam’s natural look by using her own clothes instead of roping in stylists for her wardrobe.
The Biabani Kothi stands amidst a jungle, and its rooftop was chosen as the place to shoot photos and videos around an exquisite ruby-and-diamond necklace from the Rani collection. “A lot of queries have come in from brides-to-be, with people thronging our showroom to see the jewellery. Patrons across generations have also spread the buzz,” said Anand.
For the Rani collection, the brand not only drew upon the Maharani’s legendary fashion sense, and endeavoured to recreate her persona through its aesthetic shoots, but succeeded in attaching extra value to the jewellery by linking it with her iconic elegance.
