With Plogathon 2.0, Chetmani Ornaments & Jewellers motivates the community to clean up their environment

The campaign brought together 300 people including residents of Varanasi, the jeweller’s employees and various stake holders. It also raised awareness about the community’s role in waste management
Varanasi: Chetmani Ornaments & Jewellers, a leading name in the jewellery market of Varanasi, recently collaborated with the Swachchanjali Kuda Bazar Foundation, an NGO dedicated to cleanliness and waste management, for Plogathon 2.0, an initiative focused on promoting cleanliness and sustainability. The event was held in Varanasi with the goal of raising awareness about the significance of cleanliness in urban areas and motivating the local community to take ownership of their environment.
Plogathon 2.0 brought together local residents, the jeweller’s employees and various stakeholders for a common cause—cleaning up the city’s cantonment area and its surroundings. Known for being one of the cleanest areas in Varanasi, the cantonment area was facing growing challenges with waste, particularly due to increased plastic litter and poly bags from nearby malls. The event sought to address this issue by encouraging everyone to contribute towards creating a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
Sharing insights on the initiative, Sumit Agarwal, Director of Chetmani Ornaments & Jewellers Pvt. Ltd, said, “Our motivation behind this drive was the rising litter in the cantonment area, particularly due to the large mall in the vicinity. We wanted to take a step towards cleaning up the area and giving back to society. This was a great way to contribute to the community and help maintain the cleanliness that we have come to expect in such a prominent part of Varanasi.”
Plogathon 2.0 saw enthusiastic participation, with about 300 people coming together for the cause. The initiative also included fun and engaging activities such as a competition where participants could win prizes based on the amount of trash they collected. Those who collected more than three kilos of waste received gifts, and those who reached six kilos were rewarded with additional prizes.
“The local public was mostly invited through the NGO, and we also had our employees participating in the campaign. The competition added an element of fun and motivation, making the clean-up drive even more exciting,” Agarwal explained. To encourage participants to be active and rejuvenated, a morning exercise session was held before the clean-up drive began.
In total, approximately 150 kilos of garbage, including plastic bags and other waste, were collected during the drive. According to the jeweller, the initiative was not just about cleaning up the environment; it was a step towards raising awareness about the importance of waste management and making cleanliness a daily habit.
Although there was no significant business gain for the brand after the event, Agarwal noted that several customers appreciated the company’s effort to organize such a meaningful drive. He said, “People appreciated what we did and said that other businesses should also take similar initiatives. It’s about creating awareness and showing the public that we all have a responsibility to keep our surroundings clean.”
The success of Plogathon 2.0 reflects Chetmani Ornaments & Jewellers’ commitment to social responsibility and sustainability. With more events planned for the future, the company continues to aim for positive change within the community while expanding its presence in Varanasi.
Currently, Chetmani Jewellers operates seven stores in Varanasi, with plans to open two more in the coming months, and aims to have over 50 stores across the region within the next three years.
