Top jewellery trends to watch out for at the show

- Long and heavy bridal necklaces as opposed to round necklaces
- Classic heirloom bridal pieces
- Lightweight designs splashed with Rubies and emeralds
Retailers are always on the lookout for trendy jewellery and B2B events thrive on such demands. However, trends subcategorize themselves into timeless and seasonal preferences. There are also takers for other categories such as pretwear, where less is more. When it comes to the bridal segment, the focus on exclusivity becomes stronger because it’s about celebrating one of the most memorable days of our lives. Let’s know the top jewellery trends the market is going gaga about.
In the bridal category, heirloom pieces are a rage, believes Abhishek Gilara, Director, Rambhajo’s. “Heirloom pieces hold the first position in bridal jewellery, according to me. This is where a jeweller gets the biggest scope to experiment with luxury and opulence to make a range the customers can’t take their glances away from,” he said, adding that heirloom pieces also have high emotional and investment value while being incredibly fashionable. “The fact that the same jewellery piece accentuates the glamour of women down generations proves its unbeatable feat as the strongest jewellery trend ever,” Gilara maintained.
Drawing inference from the opinion above is Vikas Mehta, Director, Achal Jewels. Choker is riding high on the trend wave, feels Mehta. “Thereafter, the combination of choker and a haaram is gaining a huge popularity because of their contrasting shapes and resultant fashionable appeal,” he said. Long and heavy bridal necklaces are also gaining ground in Indian weddings as opposed to round necklaces having similar look and feel.
Suresh Dhaddha, Director, Gem Plaza shares a different take on colour gemstones. He believes that precious colour gemstones are ruling markets abroad and have started showing their presence in lightweight category. This has also influenced the designs of white diamonds nowadays, as modern cuts and designs are preferred, he maintains. “The emergence of lightweight jewellery and the colour splash is prominent because of less public gatherings and lesser frequency of weddings because of the pandemic. The post-pandemic customer wants to flaunt beauty of jewellery in a more meaningful manner, for which lightweight is gaining more prominence,” said Dhaddha.
Indeed, rubies and emeralds are foraying into the lightweight segment in an unprecedented pace. While that helps maintain healthy margins through the category of a peppier product, kundan and meena are ruling the roost for the bridal segment. Such trends keep both the pretwear and bridal categories capable of design-led experimentation and diversity.
