The B2B event, which will see several domestic and international buyers explore new opportunities, will also fulfil the needs of retailers looking for trend-setting jewellery designs
With the upcoming festive season, the Indian jewellery industry, comprising not only jewellery consumers but also retail jewellers, is gearing up for jewellery shopping. The India Gem and Jewellery Show (GJS) , organized by the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), is a few days away. It will commence on September 30 and run up to October 2, 2023, with the aim of meeting the delivery of goods needed by retailers preparing to meet their customers’ demands. The four-day event will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
With changing consumer preferences, retailers are eagerly awaiting one of the major B2B jewellery shows of the year, which introduces new trend-setting jewellery for retailers. The previous edition of this event was hosted in April 2023 and was a huge success.
Commenting on the upcoming edition of GJS, Saiyam Mehra, Chairman of GJC, said, “We are planning to have a GJC general body meeting on September 29 at JIO. The event’s grand inauguration is set to take place on the morning of September 30, in the esteemed presence of Ramesh Bais, the Governor of Maharashtra. Joy Alukkas, Chairperson, Joyalukkas, and Rajesh Kalyanaraman, Executive Director, Kalyan Jewellers, will also grace the occasion as guests of honour. We have meticulously planned the event. The hosted buyers program is fully booked and retailer registrations are going on with record numbers for GJS. The GJC Night on the evening of September 30 and The National Jewellery Awards on October 1 are the other highlights, with 750 entries and over 33 awards to be presented. I am confident that these four days will be filled with immense business significance.”
The GJS is also a new opportunity for many exhibitors, as well as domestic and international buyers who are not part of other jewellery shows. Moreover, the attendance of international buyers will also lead to export opportunities in the international jewellery market. Mehra stated, “For domestic corporations, single-store chains, or chain stores, many launches will happen during these four days. There will be new coloured-stone jewellery, antique jewellery, and diamond pieces as well.”
With a conservative outlook, Mehra estimated 20–25 tonnes of jewellery, including a significant quantity of diamonds and loose gemstones, will be sold during this GJS, which will have 400+ exhibitors and 2000+ hosted buyers, and is being supported by the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
Mehra also spoke about GJC’s B2B Preferred Manufacturer of India programme, scheduled for November 2023 in Bangalore, that will bring together wholesalers and manufacturers.
