Lala Jugal Kishore’s new store in precincts of the Taj Mahal Hotel, Lucknow, showcases its ‘Jewels of Awadh’ label
Housed in the iconic hotel, the jewellery ‘concept’ store takes pride in showcasing creations rooted in the glorious past of the historic city of the Mughals to high-net-worth tourists who visit Lucknow in the hope of knowing its cultural heritage
Lala Jugal Kishore Jewellers has launched a new showroom within the precincts of the IHCL-owned Taj Mahal hotel in Lucknow that will stock collections from its couture label ‘Jewels of Awadh’, inspired by the Awadhi architecture of the region. The new store’s location allows it to target high-net-worth tourists who visit Awadh and Lucknow. Tanya Rastogi, Director of Lala Jugal Kishore Jewellers, says the goal is to reach out to customers interested in the region’s cultural history.
“Before COVID, I was already doing a lot of exhibitions and shows in Delhi and had a lot of outstation buyers. So, I felt it is good for me to have a place where I get many people from outside Lucknow and Awadh. Our new store within the Taj Mahal Hotel at Lucknow is predominantly about the ‘Jewels of Awadh’ by Tanya Rastogi label, comprising jewellery inspired by the history of Awadh. Meenakari originated in this region, and ‘Jewels of Awadh’ highlights that. The label deals in authentic vintage jewellery, refurbished and vintage-inspired jewellery. At the store, we will also have fine jewellery from the main brand, Lala Jugal Kishore Jewellers,” Rastogi says.
The focus for the new store is on tourists rather than city residents. She believes that when customers come to Lucknow, one of the things they should experience is the ‘Jewels of Awadh’. It is for those who want to take away a part of the region’s history in the form of jewellery.
Most Lala Jugal Kishore Jewellers stores in Lucknow have separate sections for ‘Jewels of Awadh’, launched as a label in 2015. Two flagship stores – at Mahanagar and Bhootnath Market in Lucknow – have exclusive design studios dedicated to the brand.
With a 150-year history as a royal jeweller, Lala Jugal Kishore Jewellers still has clients for historical jewellery and continues to serve royal houses connected to them. Rastogi reiterates that the brand has always been linked and associated with the Awadh region and considers other old jewellers in the community as part of their extended family.
