A surge in mangalsutra demand with estimates suggesting 24,000 kilograms of gold will be used in mangalsutra sales alone is expected this wedding season, as the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) predicts 48 lakh weddings
MUMBAI — A recent study by The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) forecasts an extraordinary wedding season in India, with approximately 48 lakh ceremonies anticipated in the coming months, generating a staggering business worth Rs 5.9 lakh crore. This surge is expected to significantly boost demand for mangalsutras, a traditional symbol of marital commitment.
As modern brides increasingly favour traditional jewellery, industry experts predict a substantial rise in mangalsutra sales as families prepare for elaborate celebrations. These items not only embody cultural heritage but also feature contemporary designs that appeal to today’s brides.
Chetan Thadeshwar, Managing Director of Shringar House of Mangalsutra, stated, “This season, we anticipate a marked increase in the purchase of mangalsutras due to the sheer volume of weddings ahead. With the largest stock of mangalsutras for the B2B market, we are ready to meet this demand by offering a diverse range of designs catering to both traditional and modern tastes.”
The anticipated average purchase of about 5 grams of mangalsutra per wedding is expected to accumulate total sales reaching an impressive 24,000 kilograms during this season. This influx is poised to significantly contribute to the growth of the Indian jewellery market, particularly in wedding-related purchases.
Thadeshwar also urged jewellery retailers nationwide to stock up and launch new collections to accommodate the varied preferences of brides, ensuring that each wedding features jewellery that reflects both tradition and innovation.
With millions of families gearing up for celebrations, the demand for mangalsutras and other bridal jewellery is set to soar, driving further momentum in the Indian jewellery industry.
