Malabar Group unveils scholarships for girl students in Telangana as part of CSR initiative
Overall, the Malabar Scholarship Programme grants scholarships worth Rs 16 crore to support the education of more than 21,000 girls across India
Hyderabad: The Malabar Group, parent company of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, has announced educational scholarships for girl students in Telangana for the 2024–2025 academic year. The initiative, part of the Malabar Scholarship Programme, was unveiled during an event at The Telangana State IAS Officers Institute in Somajiguda, Hyderabad.
The event was inaugurated by D. Anasuya Seethakka Garu, Minister for Panchayat Raj & Rural Development, Women & Child Welfare, Government of Telangana. Senior executives from Malabar Group, including Asher O., MD – India Operations; Siraj PK, Retail Head – Rest of India; Mohammed Shareej K., Zonal Head; and Shanib K., Zonal Head, attended the event alongside customers, well-wishers and students.
For 2024–2025, the Malabar Group has allocated Rs 16 crore to support the education of more than 21,000 girl students across India. In Telangana alone, Rs 3.14 crore will benefit more than 3,900 students from 116 colleges.
Speaking about the initiative, MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, said, “Education is the most powerful tool to change the world. Our scholarship programme is a direct reflection of Malabar Group’s deep-rooted belief that education unlocks opportunities and transforms lives. We are committed to removing barriers for young girls so they can fulfil their educational aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.”
The Malabar Charitable Trust (MCT), established in 1999, channels 5% of the company’s profits into CSR initiatives focused on education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and poverty alleviation. Since the launch of the Malabar National Scholarship Programme in 2007, over Rs 60 crore has been invested to support more than 95,000 girl students across India, including Rs 13.74 crore for 22,400 students in Telangana.
In addition to its education-focused efforts, the Malabar Group runs the Hunger-Free World Project, which distributes over 60,000 food packets daily across 81 cities in 17 States. In Zambia, 10,000 school students receive meals each day. The company plans to scale the initiative to serve 1,00,000 people daily at 200 centres, in partnership with the social service organization Thanal.
The Grandma Home Project is another key initiative, offering free, fully equipped housing for destitute women. Currently, homes operate in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, with plans for expansion to Kerala, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the Malabar Group has established 581 micro-learning centres across 12 States, supporting the education of over 25,800 dropout students. The company also provides medical aid, assistance for housing construction, and financial support for women’s marriages.
The Group’s CSR initiatives are aimed at uplifting marginalized communities include medical aid for the underprivileged, support for housing construction, and financial assistance for the marriages of women in need. To date, the Malabar Group has invested over Rs 282.29 crore in various social responsibility projects, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development and social welfare at the heart of its business philosophy.
