India’s biggest diamond cluster to come up in Navi Mumbai: Uday Samant
The cluster will be set up in the Mahape industrial area, said the minister. With an investment of Rs 20,000 crore, it is expected to generate employment for one lakh people
Mumbai: India’s largest diamond cluster will be set up at Mahape in Navi Mumbai by next year, inviting an investment of Rs 20,000 crores and generating employment for one lakh people. Uday Samant, Minister of Industries, Government of Maharashtra, made the announcement while speaking to reporters in the Yavatmal district in Vidarbha after a review meeting.
Samant said, “Since the last one-and-a-half years, Maharashtra has been at the top position in terms of foreign direct investment as per the SBI’s quarterly survey. The country’s first diamond hub is coming up in Navi Mumbai. Its Detailed Project Report (DPR) and policy is ready.”
The State Minister of Industries also added that the Maharashtra government has announced concessions and incentives for industries to be set up here. With India’s first jewellery park also being established in the area in partnership with the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, the move is expected to accelerate the development of India’s gems and jewellery industry.
