Gem Experience DMCC and Shree Raghav Exports showcase brilliance in tanzanites and Colombian emeralds
Exhibiting at IIJS Premiere has given a national and global exposure to Gem Experience DMCC (JIO-M 21E), which showcases a vast array of tanzanites, and Shree Raghav Exports (Jio
1D 77B), which specialises in one colour, one shade, and one grade of loose Colombian emeralds
MUMBAI: Rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and a whole splash of colours were observed at JWCC on the second day of IIJS Premiere 2024. Ever since the pandemic struck, colour gemstones have become a rage and a league of their own in jewellery demand. The most premium B2B event in Indian jewellery housed great names in the colour gemstone manufacturing scene. The Retail Jeweller interacted with Gem Experience DMCC (JIO-M 21E) and Shree Raghav Exports (Jio-1D 77B).
Akshit Gokhroo, CEO of Gem Experience DMCC summed up the company’s love for tanzanites, ever since his family shifted from Jaipur to Tanzania only to discover the untapped value of perhaps one of the rarest gemstones in the world. “Tanzanites are found and mined within an area of 16 kilometres. My father started by trading rough, importing and exporting all around the globe, and eventually scaled up with other East African gemstones such as pink spinels from Mahinge, rhodelites, tsavorites and others. My goal is to pass on the mine-to-market journey of tanzanites in Indian retail,” said Gokhroo.
Talking to Uttam Dusad, Proprietor of Shree Raghav Exports, one traces the quest to work with Colombian emeralds back to 2001. “Our offices in Bangkok and Hong Kong started operations in 2006 and 2007 respectively. We supply Colombian emeralds to most of the leading jewellers across the world and specialise in selling layout of one colour, one shade, and one grade, across all shapes,” said Dusad.
The manufacturer brings in a wide range in layouts of Colombian emeralds. They set loose stones on necklaces, enabling customisation by end-users as well. “Curation of each layout having one colour, one shade, and one grade takes us a minimum of 2-3 years. This is our speciality,” Dusad added.
Gem Experience DMCC is at the forefront of tanzanite mining, having the largest mine named Block C in Tanzania, operational under the name of Franone Mining, which works on tanzanites and spinels. The company also distributes across various museums and retail showrooms of tanzanites in Tanzania, where they give the tourists a complete account of the mining operations. “We are on our way to adopt blockchain technology to ensure provenance of every tanzanite mined,” added Gokhroo.
It’s the first time at IIJS Premiere for both manufacturers. Gem Experience DMCC has been getting phenomenal reviews and considers India to be a great market with exceptional designers. “Tanzanites are far rarer than diamonds. The colour stones that you see now will be depleted from the mines 10 years from now, forcing new customers to buy from previous owners of tanzanites. Now is the opportunity for retailers in India to utilise the value of tanzanites by buying first-hand,” said Gokhroo.
Similar is the response for Shree Raghav Exports. “The response has been satisfactory. We are getting inquiries from retailers, wholesalers, as well as chain stores in India and abroad as well,” Dusad added.
