The award, presented at the Swara Samrat Festival, bolstered Bengal jewellery’s image as a jewellery brand deeply rooted in cultural and artistic heritage, and highly elevated its visibility

Kolkata: Bengal Jewellery LLP, a Kolkata-based diamond jewellery brand, recently presented the ‘Swara Samrat Ratna’ award to sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. For it, the brand came up with a creation as exquisite as the art it celebrated: a bespoke sarod crafted in gold and studded with diamonds, engraved on the award, reflecting the brand’s commitment to preserving and celebrating cultural icons.

The award was presented at the 12th season of the Swara Samrat Festival, one of the biggest festivals of Indian classical music and dance held in Kolkata, that is dedicated to the memory of sarod legend Swara Samrat Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. This underscores the brand’s long-standing relationship with Bengal’s cultural and artistic heritage.

According to representatives of the brand, the sarod motif was not merely a decorative piece but a heartfelt tribute to Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, whose contributions to Indian classical music have earned him global acclaim. The motif, designed at the brand’s atelier, symbolizes the enduring legacy of the maestro and the rich traditions of Bengali artistry. The connection between the brand and the legendary sarod player runs deep, as both share ties with Bengal’s illustrious Tagore lineage.

“The sarod motif is our way of honouring Ustad Amjad Ali Khan’s unmatched contribution to Indian classical music,” Sradhya Roy, Senior Public Relations and Marketing Manager of Bengal Jewellery LLP, said. “It reflects our dedication to Bengali craftsmanship and serves as a bridge between tradition and contemporary artistry.”

The event attracted significant media attention, bringing greater visibility to Bengal Jewellery. The coverage of the award in various media not only spotlighted the brand’s cultural contributions but also helped in expanding its reach to a wider audience, including music and art enthusiasts.

Bengal Jewellery LLP, which specializes in fine bespoke jewellery spanning both antique and modern designs, has emphasized its cultural roots as a cornerstone of its longevity.  Honouring a global icon like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan bolstered Bengal jewellery’s image as a jewellery brand deeply rooted in cultural and artistic heritage. Associating with a renowned figure in Indian classical music helped elevate the brand’s visibility.

The foundations of Bengal Jewellery were laid in 1924 by the late Sambhu Nath Roy, who, at the age of 18, established The Bengal Jewellery Manufacturing Company in erstwhile Calcutta. Following his passing, his son, the late Asok Roy took over leadership from 1977 to 2008. In 2004, the company expanded its reach to the USA and Canada, and in 2015, the next generation further broadened its presence, adding UK and Europe to its portfolio. Bengal Jewellery operates four retail stores in Kolkata and has a significant retail presence overseas too.
