Mumbai: Sustainable jewellery brand Aulerth and fashion designer JJ Valaya are all set to unveil ‘The Valaya Perennials’ – the latest range in their ongoing collaboration – at the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI, to be held in Mumbai from March 13. The collection is made up of sleek and effortlessly styled jewellery featuring the designer’s signature ‘shifting leaves chevron’ and includes earrings, pendants, and bangles as versatile accessories suitable for various looks. JJ Valaya discussed the creative process behind the collection and provided insights into his collaboration with Aulerth, a two-year-old brand known for its consciously crafted, couture-inspired jewellery while talking to The Telegraph recently.
The chevron motif holds perennial significance for Valaya’s brand, appearing consistently across different products over the years, including furniture, flooring and furnishing. The introduction of a jewellery line based on this signature pattern marks a continuation of Valaya’s aesthetic evolution. The collection aims to provide an accessible entry point into the Valaya ecosystem while maintaining its recognizable style.

Valaya emphasizes the versatility of the chevron pattern, which allows for interpretation across different product lines. While couture pieces may feature diamonds, gold and rubies, the jewellery line adapts the pattern in a more accessible manner, utilizing antique gold alongside black and white accents.
Reflecting on his taste in jewellery, the designer mentions the brand’s DNA of refined maximalism, drawing inspiration from India’s rich cultural heritage. Despite his affinity for intricate designs in his work, Valaya’s personal style remains understated, often featuring his signature chevron turban.
Valaya also plans to collaborate with R-Elan, a sustainable brand utilizing PET bottle-derived fabric. The collection represents the younger Maharaja aesthetic of the JJV. Kapurthala brand, endeavours to embody the soul of India while embracing sustainable practices.
