An Industrial Visit organized by International Institute of Gemology in Surat
An Industrial Visit to Kiran Gems Manufacturing Plant, Surat followed on the next day by a tour of De Beers Group Industry Services (Laboratory), Surat was organized by the International Institute of Gemology from 19th August – 20th August, 2019 for diamond & gemstone students. The accompanying Faculty Coordinators were Mr.Rahul Desai, Mrs.Renu Punjani and Mrs.Geeta Poojari.
The students visited Kiran Gems Manufacturing Plant on 19th August, 2019, which is the World’s Largest Manufacturer of Natural Diamonds. In the first lap, the students accompanied by their faculty members were taken on a guided tour of the Plant. Students were informed about the company- its history, products, and layout. Students were exhilarated to see an assembly line working with automated robots. They learnt important considerations and gained practical knowledge of diamond manufacturing – from rough to polished & hands-on understanding of the industrial handling and some of the automated process.
The visit was followed by an excursion to the Kiran Hospital in Surat as well as the Local Diamond Market.
The Industrial Visit was followed by a tour to De Beers Group Industry Services (Laboratory), Surat on 20th August 2019, which is the most high tech and the largest laboratory of De Beers Group in the World. They were showcased how a diamond is graded using top of the line machines, as well as different researches which take place at the laboratory to open new horizons in the gems and jewellery industry.
To sum up, the trip was a learning experience wherein the students were mesmerized by both human and divine creation.
