Satvik Kamath, head of operations, Abharan Jewellers, Udupi, talk sto the Retail Jeweller India about his expectations from the IIJS in September

What are your expectations from the IIJS in terms of categories?

We will be looking for truly new designs that have a concept or story behind it. For instance, ten years ago, we had the Azwa collection that was also promoted by the World Gold Council, and it stood for the seven vows of marriage. That was a great story to attach to the ornaments. Everything fit into place. We would look for something like that.

Bridal is a big category but the World Gold Council has recently launched a campaign with GJEPC for millennials on casual-wear gold.  Would you look at things like that in terms of gold, diamonds or gemstones?

I think we will want to look at that. It’s a great effort by the World Gold Council to target millennials. That should be the area we should focus on for the future. Gemstones with the colourful look they have would be a nice targeting point.
