Under its expansive ‘Hunger-Free World’ program, the Group now provides 6,800 meals daily across Maharashtra, reinforcing its role in alleviating malnutrition and supporting underprivileged communities.

Mumbai — In a pivotal move to address urban hunger in India, Honourable Minister Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Malabar Group’s latest food distribution initiative at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. This program aims to deliver 500 nutritious meals daily to families of patients, ensuring that those facing medical hardships have access to essential nutrition.

The initiative is part of Malabar Group’s expansive ‘Hunger-Free World’ program, which already sees the Malabar Charitable Trust distributing 6,300 food packets daily across Maharashtra. With the addition of meals at Shatabdi Hospital, the total rises to 6,800 meals a day, significantly bolstering support for vulnerable communities throughout the region.

Malabar Group, recognized as the world’s sixth-largest jewellery retailer, has implemented ways to embed social responsibility into its core operations. The ‘Hunger-Free World’ program is a comprehensive CSR initiative addressing hunger and malnutrition across India and beyond. It now provides over 60,000 meals daily—50,000 in 16 Indian states and 10,000 in Zambia, primarily targeting schoolchildren and underserved communities.

During the inauguration, MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, highlighted the initiative’s impact. “Today marks a key milestone in our mission. By extending our Hunger-Free World initiative to Shatabdi Hospital, we are not only providing meals to families in need but also reaffirming our commitment to food security. We are proud to play a part in the global fight against hunger,” he stated.

The initiative is executed in partnership with the NGO Thanal – Daya Rehabilitation Trust, ensuring that meals reach those most in need. It aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.

In addition to food distribution, Malabar Group’s CSR activities include the ‘Grandma Home’ project for orphaned elderly women, medical care funding, educational support for female students, and housing assistance for the underprivileged. The Group dedicates 5% of its profits from all business areas, including Malabar Gold & Diamonds, to these social initiatives, with almost Rs 263 crore already invested in such causes.

Through these efforts, Malabar Group continues to allocate resources part of their corporate social responsibilities to combat mainstream issues plaguing society.
