Temple gold jewellery shines bright on Day 2 of IIJS Premiere 2024 at JWCC
Spokespersons of both KK Ornaments (V39 E, JWCC) and Kanganam (JIO-R 29G) claim to have robust demand, with both companies running out of stock on Day 1 itself
MUMBAI: Temple gold is the new favourite for any fashion-sensitive golf jewellery market in India. Likewise, their demand has been nothing short of phenomenal during the first tow days of IIJS Premiere at JWCC. The Retail Jeweller got in touch with KK Ornaments (V39 E, JWCC) and Kanganam (JIO-R 29G).
Chetan Shah, proprietor of KK Ornaments, explained the origin of their business from Hyderabad’s discerning hub of gold jewellery. “We have been in this business since the last 25 years. The company was started by my father in 1995 and I joined in 2000. We manufacture temple jewellery. The target markets are Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. We supply to corporates as well,” said Shah.
Praising the facilities at IIJS Premiere 2024, Shah stated that better parking facilities and stall formations have given prominent visibility to manufacturers such as KK Ornaments. “This is our second year of IIJS exhibition at Jio. We have taken part in IIJS and regional exhibitions in Hyderabad. Hyderabad’s temple jewellery is very lightweight as compared to Bangalore, which used to be a hub of heavyweight temple jewellery. We are doing both lightweight and heavyweight jewellery and have expanded our portfolio after seeing a demand boom for temple across South India in the last 4 years,” he maintained.
While speaking about their origin, Jeet Shah, partner, Kanganam, stated that the young manufacturing brand, formed by two brothers including himself, started in 2008 after separating from a parent manufacturing company. “We used to deal with bangles only previously, and now make proper South Indian temple jewellery with all items. We are from Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai,” said Shah.
The interest in South Indian temple jewellery began when Jeet’s father, who was working with a retail jewellery brand, understood the growing demand of South Indian jewellery. His idea of retail trends has empowered Jeet and his brother, the two founders of Kanganam to manufacture jewellery akin to emerging retail preferences. “Social media helps us keep track of trends globally, which we infuse in our designs,” he added.
Kanganam boasts of an unparalleled collection of bangles across IIJS Premiere. “Our monopoly is in temple jewellery bangles. We give both the gross and the net weight of jewellery. The stones are not as per the price of gold, and are charged separately. We deal with corporate brands, so there is absolute transparency. We deal with rubies, emeralds, semi-precious stones as well,” Shah maintained.
Previously KK Ornaments was into plain gold jewellery, and have diversified into temple jewellery. Even in Mumbai, they are getting inquiries from retailers based in Chennai, Bangalore, Vishakhapatnam, and Vijaywada. The highlight of their offerings this year is a complete wedding jewellery in temple gold, which is lighter in weight but looks bigger in size, as per the popular ask of end-consumers these days, keeping in mind rising prices of gold.
Kanganam has been exhibiting at IIJS Premiere since the 8 years. “Due to this platform, I have clients from across India and abroad. We are getting orders from countries such as New Zealand as well. We are very satisfied with the business. I am already 50-60% sold out and we need to restock at the earliest,” Shah said. Similar has been the experience for KK Ornaments this time. “The response has been amazing and we are already out of stock,” concluded Chetan Shah.
