Real rubies, emeralds, Polki diamonds were used for the custom sets for six characters, and the entire lot took a total of two years to create, say Vinay and Anshu Gupta, Founders, Shri Paramani Jewels
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has collaborated with noted Delhi jeweller, Shri Paramani Jewels, for his debut web series, Heeramandi, that is about to release on Netflix. The Bollywood film-maker has cast six actresses — Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shermin Segal and Sanjeeda Shaikh — and for each of their characters, he designed an entire look, replete with a full set of customized jewellery, created by Shri Paramani Jewels. “Heeramandi features 200 kilograms of handcrafted jewellery which took a total of two years to create. We used real rubies, emeralds, all cultured pearls, diamond and Polki. The looks were then sent to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team, who then picked out the best,” say Vinay and Anshu Gupta, Founders, Shri Paramani Jewels.
“The brief for the jewellery was shared by Bhansali and his production house, and it is very close to the work we do: crafting antique and Jadau jewellery with the help of our master artisans who possess years and years of skill,” explain Vinay and Anshu Gupta, adding that it took over 30-45 days for each of the signature pieces to be created.
This is the second time Bhansali and Shri Paramani Jewels have come together. In 2015, they worked hand-in-hand to create an original collection of jewellery for the Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh starrer, Bajirao Mastani. The jewellery brand is known for its heritage Polki and Jadau pieces.
The Hindi-language magnum opus Heeramandi explores the lives of three generations of courtesans in pre-Independence Lahore’s famous Heeramandi area, also known as Shahi Mohalla or royal neighborhood, and is slated for release on Netflix in the next couple of months.
