Vadodara: Sara Gandevikar Jewellers organized a special painting competition on the occasion of Women’s Day, through which it aimed to provide a platform for women artists in Vadodara while promoting India’s rich folk-art traditions. The event was hosted at the 5,000 sq. ft Sara Art & Cultural Centre, owned by the brand.

The themes of the competition were ‘Mata Ni Pachedi’, Gond art and Madhubani art, three distinct folk-art styles that symbolize the power and grace of womanhood, which the brand saw as a suitable representation for the occasion. The brand kept the event exclusive, limiting participation to a select group of women who specialize in these traditional art forms.

Around 50 participants in the competition created paintings rich in geometric patterns and bright colours, reflecting the essence of the themes. According to Amruta Gandevikar, Director of Sara Gandevikar Jewellers, the event was a way to preserve and promote Indian heritage. “With the rise of modern art, traditional art forms are slowly fading away. This competition was our way of encouraging women artists to keep these beautiful traditions alive,” she said.

According to Gandevikar, participants dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the competition, working on their pieces with great enthusiasm. The judges were faculty members from Vadodara’s renowned Maharaja Sayajirao University, who evaluated the artworks based on creativity, adherence to themes and artistic execution.

Winners across three categories received hampers, certificates, trophies and cash prizes. The first prize was a cheque of Rs 5,000, while special category winners received Rs 1,500 each along with art-related hampers. The event also fostered a sense of community among participants, many of whom were existing customers of the brand. “Our business is largely driven by women—both as customers and staff. This event allowed us to deepen our bond with them while celebrating their artistic talent,” said Swati Gandevikar, Director, Sara Gandevikar Jewellers. Prominent guests at the event included the Mayor of Vadodara, who appreciated the brand’s efforts to promote local talent.

In addition to the competition, a brief awareness session was conducted by two reputed women gynaecologists from the city, who spoke to the participants about cervical cancer, menstrual hygiene and menopause.

For the brand, the event was not just an art competition but a celebration of womanhood, tradition and empowerment. Amruta Gandevikar reflected on the success of the event, saying, “We did not organize this event with any business motive; it was purely about art and culture. The enthusiasm of the participants reassures us that our traditions will continue to thrive.”

Sara Gandevikar Jewellers operates three stores in Vadodara, with its gold jewellery and silver stores in Dandia Bazar, and another store located at Waghodia Road.
