Qatar Designers Debut at New York Fashion Week 2019
With the end of the International Fashion weeks starting from New York To Paris, it’s a proud season for Qatar with Two Qatari designer brands, Harlienz and Ghada Al Buainain Jewelry, debuting Qatari fashion at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW 2019).
This is the first time ever that any Qatari designers have participated in such a coveted international fashion event. The NYFW is one among top four annual events which set the global fashion industry calendar. This representation resonates with the efforts that have been exerted recently in the form of initiatives and support to encourage more Qatari young people to undertake business in the fashion industry specifically.
NYFW Consultant and sole representative of the event in Qatar Gills Manjulakshmi said: “The local fashion scene is burgeoning with talent. It was about time to start taking Qatari designers to a global front where they can share their artistic expression with a global audience. I am very happy and proud to be representing Qatari young designers and to be the first one to open the door for more international collaborations in the fashion industry.”
Manjulakshmi also directed the show, with Show Director Carrot GK, for the two Qatari best friends, who came together to present a Middle Eastern take on modest and traditional fashion at New York. She has selected them from a list of 100 designers from Qatar, and their application was elected at NYFW for its unique, simple Avant Garde looks.
Christina Neault, Executive Show Director at New York Fashion Week at Pier59 Studios, said “It was quite refreshing to see such creative, elegant and modest fashion on the runway during the NYFW 2019. The two Qatari brands have succeeded in reminding the audience of the charm and mystery of the Middle East. I was very happy to have them with us and we look forward for more designers from Qatar to join us in the upcoming years.”
The entire collection was designed and made in Qatar, with wear from Harlienz and jewellery from Ghada Al Buainain, juxtaposing soft silhouettes of silk layers with structural gold jewelry, inspired by hardware and encrusted with diamonds.
On the runway for debut designers, Harlienz showcased fluid structures with fabrics of silks and linen, raw textures, and asymmetrical cuts. Some of the pieces were also styled in an authentic Arabian look that left the audience in awe with its simplicity and elegance. On the other hand, Ghada Al Buainain exhibited her unconventional creativity with the geometrical line patterns in gold and diamonds. Shades of Gold floated around complementing the palettes of Harlienz from neutrals to high contrasts including Brinjal Purples, Post Box Reds, Olive Greens and Mandarin Oranges.
Mizalla For Events coordinated the International Show Production at the New York Fashion Week and will continue to do for the upcoming fashion weeks in New York, Paris, London and Milan for Middle East Talents and Brands.
The garments and accessories floated down the runway reminding guests that modest fashion and jewelry are a tour de force in the modern fashion landscape.
