Chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced plans to establish a gems & jewellery park in collaboration with the Centre, expecting to create over 1 lakh jobs
Mumbai: The state is working diligently to promote the gems and jewellery sector and ensure ease of doing business for entrepreneurs, as the industry plays a crucial role in Rajasthan’s economic growth, chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced on Friday.
Addressing the inauguration of JAS-2024, a jewellery show organized by the Jewellery Association in Jaipur, Sharma highlighted that the share of gems and jewellery in the state’s total exports reached an impressive Rs 11,183 crore in 2023-24.
“Gems and jewellery businessmen are making a significant contribution to the state’s economic progress, and the sector is a major job creator,” Sharma said. He emphasized that Jaipur is renowned globally for its exquisite gems and jewellery, with the state government continuously working to promote this industry and simplify business processes for entrepreneurs.
An official statement from Sharma noted that jewellery made in Jaipur is recognized worldwide for its beauty and craftsmanship. As a result, the gems and jewellery industry has been identified in Jaipur under the ‘One District One Product’ scheme. The state government aims to further develop this sector through targeted efforts.
Sharma also praised the central government’s initiative, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to make hallmarking of gold jewellery mandatory, strengthening the industry even further.
He announced plans to establish a gems and jewellery park in collaboration with the central government, which is expected to create over 1 lakh jobs. Sharma underscored the need to promote artisan training, adopt the latest technology, and invest in research to elevate the industry to new heights on the international stage.
