‘IIJS is a pilgrimage for jewellers’

Rishi Verma, director, FatehchandBansilal Jewellers, Ambala, Haryana, talks to Samit Bhatta, publisher of The Retail Jeweller India magazine about her expectations from the IIJS
You have just launched a bridal floor at your store. What are your expectations in terms of products at the IIJS
We have been blessed with a variety of clients in different categories. I have spoken to a lot of brides and most complain of the same thing — the necklaces are very heavy. My agenda is to look for designs that are luxurious to look at but light in weight. With gemstones, the trend is going fantastic all around. I have launched a category with gemstones called Mandla and I see it as a big category in jewellery in the future. I am looking at polki. There are designers and suppliers who are doing a lot of design innovations with lightweight jewellery. The next ten years is going to be all about gemstones.
There are 452 new exhibitors this time at the IIJS. What is your message to the trade?
Its stunning that there are so many people coming from all over. India has a lot of talent. You see new things in every corner of the country. We see that in Amazon and IIJS has done exactly that for jewellers. I encourage youngsters to come to IIJS. It’s a pilgrimage for jewellers.
