GJEPC, Namibia Diamond Board hold meeting to deliberate collaboration opportunities
The meeting focused on addressing challenges faced by the Indian diamond industry such as high production costs and the growing threat from lab-grown diamonds
MUMBAI: GJEPC and Namibian Diamond Board have held a meeting to explore potential collaboration to strengthen the diamond industry in both countries, a GJEPC report said. The Namibian Diamond Board was represented by Brent Eiseb, CEO, Namibia Diamond Trading Company (NDTC), Nekulilo Ithete, Diamond Board of Namibia Director, Bartholomues De Klerk, Diamond Board of Namibia Director, Emily Kapulwa, Diamond Board of Namibia Director, Willy Mertens, CEO, De Beers Marine Namibia, and Tashi Shiimi-ya-Shiimi, Managing Director, TaTe Diamonds.
The meeting was held at the GJEPC head office in Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) and focused on addressing challenges faced by the Indian diamond industry such as high production costs and the growing threat from lab-grown diamonds.
GJEPC India members, welcoming the delegation, included Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC; Kirit Bhansali, Vice Chairman, GJEPC; Anoop Mehta, President, BDB; Ajesh Mehta, Convener, Diamond Panel, GJEPC; Russell Mehta, Member – Diamond Panel, GJEPC; and Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC.
GJEPC highlighted the potential of India as a major diamond trading and manufacturing hub at the meet. They also brought to notice that India is a major diamond consumption market. GJEPC proposed that Namibia host diamond auctions in India to leverage our nation’s Special Notified Zones (SNZ) in Mumbai and Surat – given the recent trade-friendly measures announced in the Union budget.
The meeting also laid increased emphasis on joint marketing initiatives, knowledge sharing and skill development between the two countries.
