Debasish Biswas appointed CEO of Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery

Biswas brings on board 31 years of professional experience to his role at IIGJ, a project of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)
Debasish Biswas has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), a project of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
GJEPC, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, is the apex body driving India’s export-led growth in the gem and jewellery sector, since 1966.
IIGJ presently has five state-of-the-art campuses in Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Varanasi and Udupi, offering degree, diploma and certification programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as corporate training. The Indian gem and jewellery exports stood at US$ 39.15 billion in 2021-22, contributing 7% to India’s GDP. It employs around 5 million people.
Biswas brings on board 31 years of professional experience in banking, telecom, insurance and media sectors, including 17 years in leadership roles as VP, Country Head and CEO in the education and training industry across national and international markets.
