Mangalore: Abharan Jewellers recently organized a unique sand art activity at Kapu Beach aimed at raising awareness about dengue and malaria. The initiative, conceptualized in collaboration with a talented sand artist, sought to leverage the beach’s popularity among tourists to spread crucial health messages.

The event, which took place amidst increasing cases of dengue in the region, featured intricate sand sculptures designed to educate visitors about preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases. Speaking about the objective behind the activity, Mahesh Kamath, Director of Abharan Jewellers, highlighted the importance of community health awareness during this time of year.

“We partnered with a skilled sand artist to create awareness about dengue and malaria,” Kamath stated. “Kapu Beach, being a highly frequented spot by tourists, provided an ideal platform for such an initiative.”

When inquired about the promotional efforts for the activity, it was revealed that the focus was primarily on below-the-line (BTL) strategies, including social media and local engagement, rather than seeking widespread media coverage. This approach aimed to engage directly with the community and create meaningful impact.

The sand artist, known for his previous work on various social themes, worked alone on this project, demonstrating his commitment to using art as a medium for social change. Although the event garnered attention on social media platforms, the primary goal was to educate and engage with local visitors and residents.

Reflecting on the feedback received, Kamath mentioned that while the initiative was shared on social media feeds, the response was positive, indicating potential for future similar activities depending on community interest.

“As this initiative evolves and if there’s increased interest, we may consider conducting similar awareness campaigns in the future,” he concluded.
