Bharat Diamond Bourse [BDB] Rises to fight the COVID-19 Threat
Bharat Diamond Bourse committee commends the effort of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Government, CM Shree Uddhav Thakrey to fight the war against COVID-19. BDB also acknowledges the entire team of Health workers, Police, Doctors, Mumbai Municipality and all the COVID fighters to have stood alongside people of the country to win the COVID war. Bharat Diamond Bourse also acknowledges the people of our country to have unanimously supported the call of the Prime Minister to “Stay at Home” to thwart off the epidemic. The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council [GJEPC] as always has also contributed significantly to the cause that will help the country win the war against COVID-19.
Bharat Diamond Bourse the largest diamond bourse in the world has done well by taking care of its members, daily wage workers, and all the poor people residing around the area of the bourse, the Bandra – Kurla complex by feeding them on a daily basis. According to Mr Anoop Mehta, President, Bharat Diamond Bourse, “It is our sincere effort to support our countrymen in these unprecedented times that we are facing and I am thankful to the Diamond fraternity and to all our members to have made our contribution and support services a reality”. Mr Mehul Shah, Vice President Bharat Diamond Bourse added “The Diamond fraternity is one of the largest contributors for export revenue to the country and in turn generates huge employment in the trade. The sector has stood up to support our country in all adversities and calamities and hope to always be at the service of our nation in future too”.
Contribution by Bharat Diamond Bourse [BDB]
- Contribution of 1,20,00000 [One Crore Twenty lakhs] to Chief Minister routed through Gem and Jewellery National Relief Foundation [GJNRF]. GJNRF is a TRUST initiated by the Diamond fraternity, BDB & GJEPC. The foundation is created to address National relief contributions and was incorporated after the Kargil War in 1999. Thereafter GJNRF is constantly addressing every calamity and social needs of the society.
- Daily wage Sorters and Traders: The daily wage workers and traders are an integral part of the diamond industry and are going through a tough time presently. Bharat Diamond Bourse is helping them with 5000/- [Rupees Five Thousand ] each in their Bank accounts to support during these unprecedented times. So far around more than 800 daily wagers assorters, small brokers and traders have been benefited in this program and further applications are awaited. GJEPC has also committed to support this initiative of BDB. The daily wage workers have been asked to fill up a form online with details to enable them for the support and the same is verified by the BDB office bearers.
- 600 to 700 poor people living around the Bharat Diamond Bourse area are being fed on a daily basis with food. Bharat Diamond Bourse has been successful in donating over 11 Tonnes of Rice and Dal to Dr G Shivanandan Roti Bank which is an NGO and the beneficiaries are the poorest lot in the country.
