Chennai: Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers (VBJ) and designer Anju Modi recently collaborated for an event to mark 125 years of VBJ’s operations. Titled ‘An Affair of Glamour and Grandeur’, the evening marked the anniversary through a show featuring the brand’s jewellery collections and the designer’s clothing, combining traditional and contemporary styles.
The evening began with a dance performance by Padma Bhushan awardee danseuse Shobana. A runway show was then presented – it included bridalwear and jewellery collections, with each piece representing design traditions and practices from India.
Speaking at the event, AmarendranVummidi and Jithendra Vummidi, Managing Partners of VBJ, said, “At VBJ, every piece we create is an heirloom of emotion, craftsmanship and history. As we celebrate 125 years, it is only fitting that we honour this journey with a collaboration that reflects India’s eternal spirit. Anju Modi’s revival of our weaving traditions mirrors our passion for preserving and evolving Indian craftsmanship. Tonight is not just about fashion; it’s about story-telling, legacy and the soul of India.”
The runway’s conclusion saw the VBJ team and Anju Modi on stage.
VBJ is a jewellery company based in South India, known for diamond and goldjewellery as well as silverware. It operates flagship stores in Chennai and has announced expansion plans across South India. The company opened its first international showroom in Dallas, Texas, in 2023 and plans further expansion across other cities in the United States.
