AVR Swarna Mahal blends culture, commerce in bridal jewellery ad and ‘mandapam’ ramp show

The campaign featuring brand ambassador Arvind Swamy aims to boost pre-season bridal sales across South India. The fashion show held at a wedding venue had 250+ high-value clients as guests, who were served authentic wedding meals to the accompaniment of live classical music

Salem: AVR Swarna Mahal Jewellers launched its bridal collection, Sampradhyaya, with a multimedia campaign featuring actor Arvind Swamy and a live fashion showcase in Bengaluru. The campaign focuses on South Indian wedding traditions and is designed to engage audiences both emotionally and culturally.

The television commercial with Arvind Swamy marks a new communication approach for the brand. “This is the first time the celebrity also showed interest to communicate with people in this space,” said A.V.R. Siddhanth, Director of AVR Swarna Mahal Jewellers. “We wanted to bring in something that resonates with our legacy, while making it relatable and visible across our stores and ads.”

To build on the campaign message, the brand organized Walking of Heritage’, a heritage-themed fashion show at a wedding venue instead of a conventional hotel. The event featured four regional bridal looks – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayali – each showcasing jewellery linked to their respective culture. The ramp was styled as a traditional mandapam, with guests served authentic wedding meals while live classical music played.

According to Siddhanth, “The format created emotional resonance. Guests left with a strong understanding of the concept behind Sampradaya and what we are trying to convey through design.”

Showstoppers included Miss Universe India Karnataka finalist Vaamshi Uday. The invite-only event brought together 250-300 high-value clients, offering a physical touchpoint to the otherwise media-led campaign.

The campaign is expected to influence bridal jewellery sales in the upcoming period, when auspicious dates are limited but purchases still take place. Bundled offerings between Rs 5-10 lakh have also been created, enabling customers to choose full sets in a single package.

“We are expecting a promising volume of sales before the wedding season starts,” said Siddhanth. “This initiative gives our customers more clarity and options, especially in a market impacted by gold price fluctuations.”

AVR Swarna Mahal plans to release further ad narratives with Arvind Swamy through the year, aligned with seasonal campaigns and local buying patterns.

AVR Swarna Mahal Jewellers was founded by A.V. Ramachandran nine decades ago. Currently, the AVR Swarna Mahal Group operates 32 retail outlets overall across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, including its sub-brands. The group owns silver brand Vendi and a recently launched high end jewellery brand D.REN.
