Mumbai: Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas launched its new boutique at Jio World Plaza in Mumbai, marking the jewellery house’s return to the city nearly a century after establishing its original presence in erstwhile ‘Bombay’. The brand had officially established a retail home at Jio World Plaza in late 2025. It hosted a massive, star-studded launch event called ‘Mumbai Homecoming’, attended by celebrities like Sonam Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, and others from Mumbai’s fashion, cultural and luxury circles, to celebrate its full arrival in the city.

The evening was commemorated with nine archival jewellery pieces by Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, presented through individual artistic installations, highlighting the history, craftsmanship and stories associated with each jewel.

Speaking on the occasion, Yash Agarwal, Creative Director of Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, said, “The evening stood as a grand tribute to our storied heritage. Decades after establishing our original presence in Bombay, we are deeply honoured to welcome discerning guests once again to the city nearly a century later. It was a sublime celebration of the modern maharani, reflecting our enduring commitment to transforming sacred jewellery-making traditions into timeless, modern heirlooms.”

The nine archival and collectible jewels showcased at the event were Ember in Sand, The Shree Veni, The Golconda Blush, Scent of the Sea, Jaipore Pink, Pannika, Shahi Kantha, The Legacy of Art and The Queen of Ni. Each piece was presented through a separate artistic zone.

The Mumbai boutique adds to Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas’ presence in the contemporary luxury jewellery market, following its boutiques in New Delhi and Jaipur. The brand’s Mumbai presence is also linked to its historical association with the Bombay of old.

The jewellery house traces its history to the late 19th century, when Shri Birdhichand Agarwal established a reputation for sourcing and identifying gemstones. In 1930, he opened the house’s atelier in Jaipur’s Johri Bazaar. Under Shri Ghanshyamdas Agarwal, the house continued to work with jewellery techniques associated with North Indian craftsmanship, including the setting of uncut diamonds in gold foil and the carving of gemstones into three-dimensional floral and figurative motifs.

Today, the maison is led creatively by Yash Agarwal, a GIA alumnus. His approach combines traditional techniques with contemporary jewellery forms, extending the house’s work to a new generation of collectors. The Mumbai launch concluded with a multi-course gastronomic experience inspired by the nine jewellery pieces, along with live fusion performances.

Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers was formally established in 1930. The jewellery house currently operates four stores, with the new Mumbai boutique at Jio World Plaza adding to its retail presence across Jaipur, New Delhi and Doha.
