The new school offers structured learning in gemology and jewellery studies, with a focus on academic training, practical exposure and industry alignment

Mumbai: GIA India, an independent subsidiary of Gemological Institute of America, unveiled the GIA School of Gemology and Jewelry Arts at the Bombay Exhibition Center venue of IIJS Bharat Premiere 2026. The new school has been introduced as part of GIA’s education programmes. It offers structured learning in gemology and jewellery studies, with a focus on academic training, practical exposure and industry alignment.

GIA’s Mumbai campus, established in 2004, provides courses in gemology, diamond grading, coloured stones, jewellery design, CAD and CAM for jewellery, and jewellery business studies. The programmes are designed for students, professionals and entrepreneurs entering or working within the gem and jewellery sector. The curriculum aims to provide knowledge and technical skills required for participation in the global industry.

The launch event was attended by representatives from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, members of GIA’s leadership team, alumni, students and industry participants.

We are delighted to unveil the GIA School of Gemology and Jewelry Arts in Mumbai, reiterating our long-term commitment to invest in India as a strategic and important market, domestically as well as from a global perspective,” said Cathryn Ramirez, GIA Senior Vice President and Chief Learning Officer.

“Nurturing India’s talent pool through our education programmes that are rooted in research, innovation and integrity, has always been at the heart of GIA. The GIA campus in Mumbai will continue to offer students world-class education and training that will empower them with knowledge, skills and confidence to lead the future of the industry,” said Amit Pratihari, Managing Director, GIA India.

Other GIA representatives present at the event included Pritesh Patel and Sriram Natarajan.

Alongside the unveiling, the GIA Alumni Collective, India chapter, held a networking event during IIJS Bharat Premiere 2026 in Mumbai. The initiative brought together alumni from GIA campuses across regions, providing a platform for interaction, exchange of ideas and professional engagement. Participants discussed developments in the gem and jewellery sector and explored collaboration across areas including manufacturing, retail, design, gemology, education and entrepreneurship. GIA’s alumni network includes around 185,000 members across regions, supported by 59 chapters that facilitate networking and knowledge exchange.

Through research, education, gemological laboratory services and instrument development, GIA is dedicated to ensuring public trust in gems and jewellery.
