During the pandemic, every sector, including the gems and jewellery industry, is trying its best and going the extra mile to help the needy. Strengthening the spirit, Kolkata-based Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers have come up with a mobile food distribution van with an automated roti making machine. The van moves around different areas of Kolkata to distribute free food among the poor people who are facing two calamities together: Covid-19 and Cyclone Yaas.
Every person gets 2 rotis, dal and a sweet in the platter along with a glass of water and a dry snack packet as part of the campaign. The jeweller is planning to continue this noble initiative till June.
Apart from that, Shyam Sundar Jewellers had also organised a special Covid vaccination camp for its staff including artisans and jewellery craftsmen recently. The brand had tied up with AMRI hospital, Kolkata for this initiative through which a total of 213 people were vaccinated.
The camp was inaugurated by Aroop Biswas, Minister (Sports & Power) and Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State (Health & Family Welfare). MLA Debasis Kumar also graced the occasion and presented Covid-19 guard kits containing sanitisers, masks and liquid handwash to everyone.
Speaking about the vaccination camp, Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, said, “As a jeweller, we felt that it is our only duty to help the society amidst a global pandemic. Although many people could afford the price of the vaccine, but limited availability has made it difficult for people to arrange vaccines for themselves and their near and dear ones. We thought that this a service we must provide to them.”
