As official jewellery partner for Gupta in the National Costume round, the heritage brand was tasked with narrating India’s story through bespoke jewellery pieces that it designed and curated, embodying a vision of India that is both rooted in tradition and resonant globally
Hyderabad: The 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant officially commenced with a grand inauguration ceremony at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on May 10, marking a proud moment for India as it hosts one of the most prestigious global beauty events. Sharing that pride was heritage jewellery house Kishandas & Co, official jewellery partner for the National Costume round of Miss India World 2025, Nandini Gupta, as she stepped onto the stage holding aloft the Indian tricolour. Clad in a traditional khadi-jamdani saree by celebrated designer Gaurang Shah and embellished with exquisite jewellery by Kishandas & Co., she personified the depth and beauty of India’s cultural and artistic heritage.
Kishandas & Co has been entrusted with narrating India’s story through bespoke jewellery pieces for Gupta’s appearance in the National Costume round of the pageant. The brand has designed and curated these pieces, drawing upon diverse cultural elements from regions across India, beautifully embodying a vision of India that is both rooted in tradition and globally resonant.
The collaboration between Kishandas & Co. and the Miss India team came about organically, as the team sought to present their contestant in a traditional avatar that celebrated authentic Indian craftsmanship. With designer Gaurang Shah curating handwoven textiles, Kishandas & Co. was the natural choice to provide jewellery that echoed the same cultural integrity.
“Our brand is known for reviving forgotten styles and motifs, and creating timeless pieces that reflect India’s rich cultural heritage. This shared vision is what brought the collaboration to life,” said Pratiksha Prashant, CEO, Kishandas & Co.
The jewellery was crafted using heritage materials, including uncut diamonds, Burmese rubies and natural Basra pearls, all set in finely handcrafted gold. “From the jadau peacock motif in the necklace to the delicate chainwork in the hip jhalar, every detail was executed with precision to ensure the pieces felt regal, structured and authentically Indian,” stated Prashant.
The exclusive jewellery pieces were conceived with a thoughtful design philosophy that paid tribute to India’s diverse artistic heritage. Drawing inspiration from various regions, the brand’s design team crafted a visual narrative that was both cohesive and deeply rooted in tradition. Among the standout elements was the Chand-Suraj, a traditional South Indian bridal ornament, paired with a Rajasthani-style tikka adorned with Burmese rubies and polkis.
Vankis (armbands) and jhumkas were included as timeless motifs found across the country. A waist belt, inspired by bold square forms, was softened with pastel tones and precious stones. A three-layered jhalar on the hip paid homage to Gujarat’s rich folk traditions.
At the heart of the ensemble was a statement necklace, showcasing jadau-style peacock motifs, Basra pearls, and Burmese rubies, reflecting the Guttapusalu aesthetic associated with Telangana.
While the partnership offered the brand international exposure, Kishandas & Co. views it more as a cultural celebration. “Miss World represents excellence, grace, and cultural pride on an international stage, and being associated with it is incredibly meaningful. For us, it is more than a collaboration; it is a celebration of our heritage being acknowledged on a world stage,” Prashant added.
This isn’t the first time Kishandas & Co. has joined forces with Gaurang Shah. The two previously collaborated during the World Telugu Federation’s 12th Biennial Conference, held in Hyderabad from January 3 to 5, 2025. That event offered the brand another opportunity to present its collections alongside Shah’s handwoven garments, highlighting how its jewellery seamlessly complements both contemporary and traditional fashion on prestigious platforms.
As anticipation builds ahead of the grand finale of Miss World at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad on May 31, 2025, contestants from more than 110 countries are already in the State for a journey of cultural immersion and preparation for D-Day.
Kishandas & Co was founded by the legendary Harlochandas, jeweller to the Nizam and a master of heritage design, and has evolved through four generations. The founder’s grandson, Krishnadas, elevated the brand to new heights and now mentors his sons to continue the legacy. Pratiksha Prashant, daughter-in-law of Das and CEO of the company, has been instrumental in shaping the brand’s legacy.
