Unlike conventional jewellery campaigns, the brand has taken a narrative-first approach, re-imagining the legendary warrior woman Unniyarcha, after whom it is named, in a format designed to appeal to young audiences and ensure long-term brand recall
Gurugram: “What would it take for someone to remember Unniyarcha the way they remember the Amul Girl?” That was the question that sparked a bold creative leap for Divya Nambiar, Founder, Unniyarcha Jewellery, which led to the inception and launch of the brand’s first original intellectual property (IP): an animated series titled ‘The Chronicles of Unniyarcha’. Inspired by the legendary warrior woman after whom the brand is named, the series aims to build an emotional connect with younger audiences through an amalgamation of history, culture and modern story-telling.
Unlike conventional jewellery campaigns, this project takes a narrative-first approach, re-imagining Unniyarcha, a popular character in Kerala’s folklore remembered for her bravery and martial art skills, in a format designed to engage Gen Z and millennial audiences. “We wanted to create something original that builds long-term brand recall and emotional connect — especially with audiences who engage more with story-telling than sales,” explains Nambiar.
The series, set to unfold over 12 episodes, begins with Unniyarcha’s childhood and promises to explore her journey through adolescence into adulthood, highlighting moments that are “mischievous, kind and brave”. The idea, Nambiar explains, was born out of a desire to re-imagine Unniyarcha not just as a historical figure, but as a cultural icon — fierce, compassionate, playful and modern.
The jewellery featured in the animated stories is no mere aesthetic detail — each piece worn by characters in the series is part of Unniyarcha’s actual product line. “People won’t just watch the story — they can own a piece of it,” Nambiar adds.
According to the brand, the reception to the first episode has exceeded expectations, garnering over six lakh views and 10,000+ interactions across social media within hours of launch. Viewers flooded the brand’s channels with comments of appreciation and anticipation, asking when the next episode would be released. “That was the real win,” said Nambiar. “Branded story-telling like this builds emotional trust before the sale, and in categories like jewellery, that matters more than discounts.”
For the brand, this initiative has far-reaching benefits. By moving beyond transactional marketing into story-telling, the brand positions itself as more than just a product — it becomes an experience. This emotional alignment with consumers not only deepens brand loyalty but also creates multiple entry points for engagement, from content viewership to product ownership, ultimately driving both cultural relevance and commercial value.
Far from being a one-off campaign, ‘The Chronicles of Unniyarcha’ is envisioned as a long-term brand asset. With the first episode already out, Season 1 will continue rolling out over the coming months, with future plans hinting at merchandise and other formats to extend the IP. By embedding its jewellery line into a broader narrative framework, the brand has crafted a new blueprint for branded content.
Headquartered in Gurugram, Unniyarcha Jewellery is an upcoming silver jewellery brand specializing in 92.5 sterling silver. Drawing its name and inspiration from the legendary 17th-century warrior woman of Malabar—celebrated for her grace, bravery and the iconic urumi sword worn as a belt—the brand stands as a tribute to her indomitable spirit.
