Trivandrum: As part of its 120th Founder’s Day celebrations, Bhima Jewellers has launched a large-scale educational scholarship initiative, awarding financial support to over 700 students. This marks the brand’s first formalized effort to support individual students and builds on its longstanding tradition of community service, inspired by founder Bhima Bhattar’s vision of inclusive growth.

Bhima Bhattar, who established the brand in 1925, was an early proponent of the retail jewellery model in India. He introduced the concept of boutique-style showrooms as early as 1955 and was one of the first to promote the use of Navaratna stones in jewellery. His vision went beyond business; he believed in using the jewellery trade as a means to generate wealth, prosperity and opportunity for others.

“Our founder came from a modest background and understood the challenges of financial hardship,” said Sudhir Kapoor, Managing Director, Bhima Jewellers. “His philosophy was rooted in generosity, and this scholarship initiative is a continuation of that mindset.”

The scholarship programme was announced in May and executed in June. Over 2,500 applications were received, and after careful screening based on academic performance and socio-economic background, 700 students were selected. Support was extended particularly to students from economically weaker sections. The initiative also recognized parents of outstanding students, and district-wise academic toppers were awarded with additional cash benefits.“This was more than just a financial gesture,” Kapoor said. “We wanted to honour not only the students but also the families behind them who made their success possible. The event saw emotional moments, and we could see the impact of even small support on these families.”

Earlier, Bhima Jewellershad provided schools and colleges with infrastructure support, but this is the first time the brand has focused on individual merit-based scholarships. The company intends to continue this as a yearly initiative and expand its reach.

“We are looking to scale this from 700 to at least one lakh beneficiaries in future editions,” Kapoor confirmed. “The next phase will include top scorers from private schools and wider geographies.”

The scholarship programme adds to Bhima’s broader CSR efforts, which include partnerships with Rotary Clubs, blood donation drives, and free medical check-ups. Through this initiative, Bhima Jewellers reinforces its founder’s legacy and deepens its community engagement beyond commercial activity.

With showrooms across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, and four international outlets in the UAE, Bhima Jewellers continues to expand its presence across key markets.
