Streaming on Jio Hotstar, the docu-series features one brand in a single episode, with special emphasis on involvement of the next generation within each family

Mumbai: Jio Hotstar has released ‘Jewels of Legacy’, a docu-series that presents the working systems, histories and family-led practices of four long-standing Indian jewellery retailers. Created in collaboration with Edstead, the series documents how these businesses have evolved across generations and how each continues to shape its regional market.

The featured retailers are Kishandas & Co. from Hyderabad, Mahesh Notandass Jewellers from Mumbai, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers from Chennai and Abaran Timeless Jewellery from Bengaluru. Through interviews, archival material and access to workshops, the series outlines how each retailer identifies its place in the market and manages the production and retail processes that support its collections.

Each episode focuses on a single jewellery house. Kishandas & Co. explains its links to court traditions in Hyderabad and how those influences continue to guide its work. Mahesh Notandass Jewellers discusses its family-led decisions on design and sourcing. Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers traces its history from 1900 and describes the development of its temple-related pieces. Abaran Timeless Jewellery presents the systems it uses to manage its customer base across generations and the methods through which it maintains continuity.

Jewels of Legacy also records the involvement of the next generation within each family. The series documents how younger members view succession and responsibility, how they work with inherited processes and how they respond to shifts in technology, sourcing, workplace structures and customer expectations. Their contribution forms a significant part of how each business plans its future direction.

By placing these four retailers together, the series gives a parallel view of how family-run jewellery houses in different regions operate, grow and retain customer trust. It also points to shared themes such as memory, knowledge transfer and the place of jewellery in family histories.

Edstead’s docu-series is currently streaming on Jio Hotstar, offering viewers a direct account of the work carried out inside four of India’s iconic jewellery retail houses and their heritage. Through a cinematic journey, it explores the stories behind them and shines a light on the people who keep them going.
