Beyond the Finish Line: Siddharth Adeshra’s book analyses powerful overlap between endurance sports and entrepreneurship

Director of Keshavji Chhaganlal Jewellers and a recent Ironman 70.3 finisher, Adeshra combines the principles of endurance activities with legacy retail, showing how discipline and structured planning from marathon training now shape performance and leadership at the 100-year-old jewellery house

Jamshedpur: Siddharth Adeshra, Director at Keshavji Chhaganlal Jewellers, has just released his book titled Beyond the Finish Line, blending personal anecdotes from his endurance sports journey with sharp business insights from running a century-old jewellery house.

The book offers a deeply personal perspective on how physical discipline, mental resilience, and structured planning in endurance sports like marathons and Ironman triathlons mirror the demands of leading a multi-generational retail enterprise.

“Jewellery may not be the core subject of the book, but it’s the backdrop against which all my learnings are shaped,” says Adeshra. “The brand turns 100 this year, and everything we’ve built—relationships, trust, consistency—has parallels in how you train for and complete long-distance events.”

The book documents how Adeshra managed intense business phases, like opening a new showroom in 2019, while simultaneously preparing for his first full marathon. As a business owner, athlete, and father, he had to navigate multiple roles—often within a single day. Through structured schedules, early-morning training routines, weekly team reviews, and data-driven decision-making—both in sport and business—he created systems that helped sustain performance without burnout or compromise.

“I started applying the same rigour from my training—metrics, cadence, recovery—to business management,” he explains. “We introduced weekly review meetings, set clear performance goals, and began tracking team output much like athletes monitor progress. The shift brought more accountability and a growth mindset within the company.”

A particularly poignant lesson in the book comes from his Ironman experience, where over-exertion during one leg of the race derailed his performance in the next. “That taught me to respect the plan—be it race day or a business decision. You can’t wing it, especially in legacy retail,” he says. “You may feel strong in the moment, but if you deviate from a well-prepared strategy, the consequences show up later.”

As a fourth-generation jeweller, Adeshra also uses the book to emphasize the value of discipline over motivation. “In jewellery retail, you have to show up—whether gold prices have gone up, whether footfalls are low, or whether you’re feeling inspired or not,” he says. “That consistency defines long-term success.”

Interestingly, Beyond the Finish Line emerged not as a traditional business memoir, but from documenting his training activities. Reviewing those logs and personal notes, Adeshra saw stories that captured not just physical progress, but emotional and mental milestones as well. The idea to link those experiences to leadership and legacy came naturally. “Each activity held a moment,” he adds, “and each moment had a message that could apply to business.”

Now, Adeshra hopes the book will foster wider engagement within the jewellery industry—be it through leadership talks, wellness-led team development, or mentorship events. “I’m already being invited by organizations like the Rotary Club to speak. If this encourages even a few jewellers to prioritize fitness, reflection, or structured growth, that’s success,” he says.

Ultimately, the book offers a message of balance. “As jewellers, we’re part of our customers’ happiest milestones. But in that process, we forget to celebrate our own journey,” Adeshra reflects. “This book is about honouring your own milestones—personal or professional—and realizing that each ‘finish line’ is just the start of the next phase.”

Keshavji Chhaganlal Jewellers, established in 1925, specializes in retailing gold, diamond and silver jewellery. Over the years, the brand expanded significantly, growing from a small store to a 4,500 sq. ft showroom in Jamshedpur. It recently opened a second 5,000 sq. ft showroom. The group has also diversified into branded garments, watches and eyewear.
