From Chamber of Secrets to Prisoner of Azkaban references, each piece of jewellery is based on the famed fantasy series, and stands out from existing designs due to the quirky touch
Kochi: Diamond jewellery retailer Kirthi Diamonds has launched a capsule collection drawing inspiration from the popular Harry Potter film series. The collection is a subtle nod to the Wizarding World with three intricately designed pieces—a ring, a pendant and a pair of earrings. From Chamber of Secrets to Prisoner of Azkaban references, each piece of jewellery is influenced by iconic characters and elements from the famed fantasy series, crafted for Harry Potter fans— both wizards and Muggles alike. (In the Harry Potter series, ‘Muggles’ refer to those without magical abilities.)
The first design, a pair of earrings, is inspired by the famous Sorting Hat—a sentient, magical hat that appears in almost every film in the series. Shekar Menon, Managing Director and Design Head, Kirthi Diamonds, explained that the piece aims to mimic the distinctive movement of the hat’s mouth and shape, capturing its essence in an elegant and wearable form.
“The idea originally came about while I was searching for inspiration for a Jhumka. However, everything I came across looked similar to existing designs, so I wanted to experiment. Ultimately, the concept evolved into a fantastical representation of the Sorting Hat,” explained Menon.
The pendant in the collection takes inspiration from a memorable scene in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, featuring the Whomping Willow, a magical tree from the series. The design visually represents the dramatic moment when the tree parts to reveal a hidden entrance, with curved sections in the middle opening up into tree-like structures.
The final piece, a ring, is modelled after the popular Chamber of Secrets’ entrance door. The ring features a snake motif set on a curved track, allowing for movement, much like the serpents that slither across the actual door in the film. This dynamic element, paired with diamonds adorning the sides, makes for a distinctive design.
According to the brand, the collection has received positive response and enquiries from customers. To promote it, the brand has been producing conversational videos featuring the designer and the creative process behind each piece. Though the Sorting Hat-inspired earrings have already been featured on social media, the brand plans to introduce the other designs gradually to maintain an element of intrigue and variety in its story-telling.
Beyond social media, the collection is also being promoted through private mailing lists for regular clientele and at exclusive jewellery events.
Established in 1975, Kirthi Diamonds initially began its journey in diamond manufacturing in Mumbai. It later relocated to Kochi and moved into retail. Today, the brand operates two retail stores in Kochi and a third recently opened outlet in Kozhikode.
