GJSCI’s JOSH convocation ceremony commemorates graduates and specially abled trainees

Mumbai – The Jewellery Occupational Skilling Hub (JOSH), an initiative by the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India, celebrated a convocation ceremony at the Mega Common Facility Centre in SEEPZ, Mumbai. The event marked the graduation of 115 candidates from the 7th regular batch and the inaugural batch of Specially Abled Persons (SAP).
The newly trained graduates have specialised in various job roles including Filing & Assembly, Basic Metal Setting, Polishing & Cleaning, Jewellery CAD Designing, Diamond Assorting, Wax Setting, and specialised roles for SAP graduates such as SAP – Filing & Assembly, SAP – Basic Metal Setting, and SAP – Polishing & Cleaning.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of chief guest, Dnyaneshwar B. Patil, IAS, the newly appointed Development Commissioner of SEEPZ-SEZ. He was accompanied by C.P.S. Chauhan, Joint Development Commissioner; Dr. Prasad Varvantkar, IRS, Deputy Development Commissioner, along with other distinguished guests including Adil Kotwal, GJSCI Chairman; Shishir Nevatia (ex-director) , Colin Shah (Director), Bobby Kothari, MD of Jewelex India Pvt. Ltd., and Rajeev Garg, Executive Director & CEO, GJSCI.
Patil was deeply moved by a testimonial from one parent of a trainee in the Specially Abled Candidates (SAC) batch. He emphasized the significance of providing opportunities to underprivileged sections of society and lauded JOSH for its inclusive training efforts, noting the programme’s positive impact on individuals from diverse backgrounds.
GJSCI Chairman, Adil Kotwal, encouraged the graduates to complete their training and apprenticeships to secure a brighter future. He offered valuable employment advice and assured them of promising career prospects. C.P.S. Chauhan, Joint Development Commissioner, highlighted the importance of skill development and urged industry partners to offer competitive packages to retain skilled workers.
A significant achievement of the training programme was the employment of all SAP batch graduates by Jewelex India Pvt. Ltd. Additionally, many candidates from the general batch received apprenticeship offers from various jewellery companies within SEEPZ.
Rajeev Garg expressed gratitude to the Office of the Development Commissioner and acknowledged the rapid progress of JOSH, attributing it to the leadership of GJSCI Chairman, Adil Kotwal. He called on industry partners across India to collaborate with JOSH to establish training setups in their clusters, further enhancing skill development in the gem and jewellery sector.
