St. Petersburg: An Indian delegation comprising R. Arulanandan, Director, Department of Commerce; Kirit Bhansali, Vice Chairman, GJEPC; Anoop Mehta, President, Bharat Diamond Bourse; and Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC, participated in the round table on “Development of BRICS Cooperation in the Diamond Industry” at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia.
Heads of diplomatic missions from BRICS countries and the African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA) attended the event. The discussion focused on setting an independent agenda for fair cooperation within the global diamond industry amid significant structural changes.
Among the key goals discussed were ensuring freedom and openness of BRICS markets for diamond trade, considering diamond mining countries’ interests; and building responsible diamond supply chains in BRICS countries, leading centres for diamond trade, production, and jewellery consumption.
Continuing GJEPC’s Latin America tour, the delegation engaged in activities aimed at enhancing trade relations and promoting Indian jewellery in the Colombian market. Networking opportunities with the Indian Embassy and local jewellers, facilitated by Ali Pastorini, President of Mubri and GJEPC coordinator in the LAC region, provided insights into consumer preferences and import-export policies, paving the way for increased participation in international jewellery events.
In Panama, the delegation endeavored to solidify India’s presence in the LAC region’s gems and jewellery sector, with a focus on fostering collaboration and driving technological advancements. Events organized by the Indian Embassy and GJEPC provided platforms for fruitful discussions and networking opportunities, further cementing the foundation for collaborative growth between India and Panama.
Through strategic engagements spanning Brazil, Colombia, and Panama, the GJEPC delegation has laid the groundwork for enhanced trade relations and collaborative opportunities in Latin America, driving growth and prosperity in India’s gems and jewellery sector.
