MUMBAI: Four armed men robbed gold and diamonds worth over Rs 2 crore from a jewellery showroom in Mira Road on Thursday. The over 15 minutes theft carried out leisurely was captured on the cameras of the showroom.
The accused men are seen in the closed circuit television (CCTV) wearing the mandatory masks (due to the Covid-19 pandemic). They enter the S Kumar Gold and Diamonds showroom, located on a busy road in sector 4 of Shanti Nagar at around 2pm. After an initial interaction with the counter staff about the jewellery, one of them pulled out a revolver while the other three walked around the showroom picking up gold and diamond ornaments and putting in their bags.

A few ornaments, like finger and ear rings are even put in the trouser pockets of the robbers. The men, in their 30s, are captured leisurely walking in the showroom and gathering the ornaments. The counter staff is seen standing in attention as the theft is carried out. The security guard is seen sitting on a stool inside the showroom with folded hands.

After about 15 minutes, the thieves ensure that they have picked up every big and small ornament and walk out of the showroom.

Police said that the men had arrived on two motorbikes. While two men left with a bag on a motorbike, two others had to flee by foot as their two-wheeler gave way. The motorbike was abandoned outside the showroom before they fled.

Police suspect that the two-wheelers used for the theft may have been stolen ones. The men are likely to have done a recce of the showroom as there was no sign of urgency while robbing the eight-year-old showroom.
While the men had covered their mouth and nose with masks, they did not make any attempt to avoid the CCTVs while carrying out the theft.
