The 400-gram ‘Sundahaar’ mirrors the design, proportions and symbolism of the jewellery adorning the Pune Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati idol
Pune: Ranka Jewellers has crafted jewellery for the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati idol installed in Phuket, extending its long-standing association with the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust beyond India. The opportunity materialized following years of engagement between the brand and the temple trust in Pune, rooted in temple jewellery craftsmanship and shared cultural responsibility. Thus, when the trust established a temple in Phuket to serve the Indian community, Ranka Jewellers was entrusted with creating the idol’s jewellery.
For the Phuket idol, Ranka Jewellerscrafted a Sundahaar (Sundabhushan) weighing 400 grams, made in silver with gold plating. The ornament mirrors the design, proportions and symbolism of the jewellery adorning the PuneShreemantDagdusheth Halwai Ganpati idol. The artisans closely studied the original piece to ensure continuity in form, proportions, detailing and motifs, and similarity between the two idols. The piece was crafted using traditional temple jewellery techniques, maintaining consistency in material usage and finish.
Speaking about the association, Fatehchand Ranka, Director, Ranka Jewellers, said, “Our association with the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust is built on trust and responsibility. Being entrusted with crafting the jewellery for the Phuket idol was a matter of faith for us, and we approached it with the same commitment that we follow for the Pune temple.”
Ranka Jewellers’ work has strengthened its visibility among devotees and the Indian diaspora in Thailand. Visitors to the temple have shown keen interest in the craftsmanship of the Sundahaar and sought information about Ranka Jewellers’ design philosophy and temple jewellery expertise.
Ranka added, “This association allows us to connect with global Indian communities who value tradition and continuity. It reinforces our belief that jewellery carries cultural meaning and responsibility.”
The project has also opened avenues for future collaborations in overseas markets with established Indian communities. Ranka Jewellers sees scope to engage with similar initiatives where Indian temple jewellery craftsmanship is required.
Founded in 1879, Ranka Jewellers currently operates 15 stores across Maharashtra and continues to be closely associated with heritage jewellery craftsmanship.
