The Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India acknowledged Milan Chokshi’s leadership, highlighting his commitment to skilling India’s youth. Chokshi holds multiple key roles in prominent jewellery industry organizations, including GJEPC

Mumbai: The Gem and Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) has appointed Milan Chokshi as its new chairman, following an election. Chokshi takes over from the council’s previous chairman, Adil Kotwal.

In a LinkedIn post, Chokshi shared his excitement about the new role, stating, “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chairman at Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India.” The decision was made by the GJSCI’s board of directors during a meeting in October.

The council praised Chokshi for his enthusiasm and vision, emphasizing that his leadership would support the goal of skilling India’s youth while fostering industry collaboration.

Chokshi, a fourth-generation jeweller and gemologist, currently serves as the director of Tanvirkumar & Co. and director of bullion operations at Diamond India Limited. He is also a key member of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), where he serves as the convenor for promotions, marketing, and business development. Additionally, Chokshi holds the position of chairman at the GJEPC’s Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery in Mumbai, further reflecting his commitment to advancing jewellery education in India.

The GJSCI, established in 2012 under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and currently operating under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), is the primary body for skill development in the Indian gems and jewellery sector.

GJSCI oversees training across all industry areas, including diamond processing, coloured gemstone processing, jewellery manufacturing, and functions related to wholesale, retail and exports.

The gems and jewellery sector employs more than 5 million people, and skilling them is an important factor in the functioning of the industry.
